Annie Alleman's story about CatonFarm.com in the

Do you know:
"Caton Farm, IL" once had it's own Post Office.
It opened in 1893 and closed in 1900. Perhaps that's why you can routinely
find "Caton Farm, IL" listed on a map.
Do you know:
How did Caton Farm get it's name?
Though not generally known, it is still a fact the Honorable John Dean Caton (an Illinois Supreme Court Justice who's first case was the first lawsuit in the village of Chicago) was for several years a resident of this county. He came to Chicago in 1833 and in 1835 bought the property known as "Caton Farm" near Plainfield. On this he resided from 1838 to 1843, himself following the oxen that turned its goodly furrows. In his latter years he went to Ottawa where he resided for many years, finally removing to Chicago, where he died. Use the following links to read more...
Do you know:
Caton Farm is Station#16 on the Illinois River Line of "The J"
Like clockwork six days a week, the local EJ&E train designated "JSW1" (Joliet Switcher 1) leaves the Joliet Yard around 6:00 AM. "JSW1" travels west then northwest up thru Plainfield, then switches over to the Illinois River Line at Walker Road. Now "JSW1" heads southwest then south crossing Caton Farm Road around 7:30 AM on its way to the Minooka and East Morris area (sometimes all the way to Goose Lake) to "do business" with primarily chemical and plastics industries.
"JSW1" usually receives a new crew at some point while at the Equastar plant in Morris. Now designated "JSW2", it starts its way back the same way it originally came. Back thru East Morris and Minooka, north toward Caton Farm Road, switching back southeast at Walker Road, then heading south thru Plainfield, eventually arriving at the Joliet Yard in the early evening. (BTW, station #16 at Caton Farm has room for two cars, just north of Caton Farm Road.)
